About this trip

A freshwater fishing expedition into Royal Belum State Park, Perak, run over a minimum of 2D1N and departing by boat from Pulau Banding into Royal Belum or Temenggor Lake. The focus here shifts from our saltwater trips to freshwater sport fishing, targeting giant snakehead (toman) and sebarau (hampala barb) across the lake's flooded forest and river systems. Rate is RM1,700 per day, inclusive of boat, guide, canned drinks and drinking water, and lunch — with each boat capped at 2 anglers, so larger groups will need multiple boats. Fishing runs 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily; anglers bring their own casting gear, as fishing equipment is not included.

Royal Belum State Park, together with the adjoining Temenggor Lake, is one of the largest freshwater fishing grounds in Peninsular Malaysia, and this expedition is our dedicated freshwater offering, distinct from the saltwater trips out of Kuala Rompin and Tioman. It's built around a minimum stay of 2D1N, with the option to extend for a longer expedition.

Each fishing day runs from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with boats departing from Pulau Banding into the flooded forest and river systems of Royal Belum or across the open water of Temenggor Lake, depending on conditions and where the guide expects the best action.

The two headline species here are giant snakehead (toman) and sebarau (hampala barb) — both aggressive, structure-oriented predators that respond well to casting and lure techniques around submerged trees, drop-offs, and river mouths feeding into the lake. Toman in particular are known for explosive strikes and hard fights, making this a favorite for anglers looking for something different from typical bottom or drift saltwater fishing.

Boats on this trip are capped at 2 anglers each, so groups larger than 2 will need to book multiple boats to fish together. Unlike our saltwater trips, fishing equipment is not included here — anglers should bring their own full range of gear for freshwater casting.

The RM1,700-per-day rate covers the boat, guide, canned drinks and drinking water, and lunch. Given the remote lake setting, this runs as a self-contained package with meals and drinks provided throughout the stay.
